Code Division Multiple Access Communications Sang Wu Kim1 and Andrea Goldsmith Dept. of Electrical Engineering California Institute of Technology Pasadena, CA 91125 Abstract We analyze the performance of the truncated power control scheme in code division multiple access communication systems, which compensates for fading above a certain cuto fade depth. We investigate the power gain as well as the capacity gain over the conventional power control scheme as a function of the outage probability, in frequency selective Rayleigh faded and log-normal shadowed channels. It is found that the truncated power control scheme is more e ective for channels with a larger channel uctuation, and the capacity reduction due to the channel estimation error is on the order of e (M+1) e2b2=2, where b = ln 10=10, when the channel estimation error follows a log-normal distribution with standard deviation e, and the number of paths combined is M .

Truncated power control in code-division multiple-access communications

We analyze the performance of truncated power control in a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communication system. This power control scheme compensates for propagation gain above a certain cutoff fade depth: below the cutoff level, data transmission is suspended. We assume a channel with fast Rayleigh fading and slow lognormal shadowing plus path loss, where truncated power control is appli...

Erlang Capacity of a Power Controlled CDMA System

A limited amount of bandwidth is allocated for wireless services. A wireless system is required to accommodate as many users as possible by effectively sharing the limited bandwidth. Therefore, in the field of communications, the term multiple access could be defined as a means of allowing multiple users to simultaneously share the finite bandwidth with least possible degradation in the perform...

Power Control Algorithms in Wireless Communications

Power control in cellular systems is applied to numerous communication architectures. For Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) power control reduces intercell interference and improves capacity. For Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) power control is a required part of the base station and mobile station designs. Power Control reduces interference...

Multiple Access Communication Based on Control of Special Chaotic Trajectories

The necessity of simultaneous access to one communication channel by many users, e.g., in satellite communication systems or cellular telephony, has led to the development of the corresponding standards: FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) and TDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access). Increasing requirements to the communication channel transmission rates gave rise to the appearance of C...

Joint rate and power adaptation for radio resource management in uplink wideband code division multiple access systems

The benefits of adaptive joint power control and rate allocation for uplink transmission in a wideband code division multiple access cellular system are investigated. Closed-loop power control (CLPC), to adaptively adjust the transmit power, has the effect of maintaining a target signal-to-interference ratio and bit error rate (BER) performance. On the other hand, rate adaptation requires less ...
